During his earlier career as an IT manager and director, Peter Bubb saw the need for a distinctive type of action based external IT resource for organisations which wanted to reshape their IT. The solution of critical IT problems, rebuilding the credibility of the IT function or leading the IT function through the challenge of major structural change or absence of a key manager would all benefit from specialist assistance. This assistance needed to cover both problem solving and change management.
As a result, Peter Bubb and Company Limited (PBC) was formed in 1989 to offer IT Interim Management and also consultancy services. It soon developed a special expertise in managing performance turnrounds and periods of major change in IT functions and IT businesses, as well as the straightforward covering of key manager absences. In addition, it was able to apply the same skills on a consultancy basis more widely, to assist clients to maximise the benefits they were obtaining from information technology. The new consultancy developed a distinctive focus on understanding its clients’ businesses, advising on (and helping to deliver) action plans for obtaining competitive edge by exploiting IT.
With Peter Bubb's depth of experience in this area, it was natural to commence with IT Interim Management and IT Strategy Development work. However, this quickly led to more specific assignments, evaluating competitive strategies and assisting clients to achieve the benefits sought. All aspects of strategic IT consultancy are now undertaken including IT Strategy Development, Project Management, and Operational Reviews.
The consultancy has also developed its range of services into other related areas including system design, development and programming, and technical and engineering support. This, and some of the strategic consultancy, is carried out where appropriate by PBC's associate consultants, who provide a range of specialised expertise to supplement Peter Bubb's core skills.
In 2003, the company acquired Eastcote Computers Limited, a specialist reseller of personal computers, related products and printer cartridges. This business was progressively integrated into the activities of PBC. Peter Bubb and Company's engineering activities led to the Company developing an ability to undertake subcontract electronic manufacturing, where it has concentrated on wireless and video technologies.
